ACFM Equipment

RANA was the first pioneering company to use Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) weld defect detection equipment in the Mediterranean Sea offshore environment, instead of using MPI techniques.

The ACFM technique has now been widely accepted by certifying authorities and the majority of offshore operators as an acceptable technique for the detection of surface breaking fatigue cracks, either on uncoated or coated steel structures. It offers several advantages over MPI, including but not limited to:

  • Less time to prepare and complete the task

  • Less cleaning required on the weld

  • Results can be assessed by third parties

  • Defects can be sized for length and depth

  • Provides a permanent record of the results

RANA owns 2 ACFM systems and can provide the whole ACFM inspection service, inclusive of equipment and qualified surface inspection personnel in addition to the divers.
